Others are homeschooling which is totally different than what I did BUT IS what I did with my own kids for several years. So similarities AND differences all wrapped up and intertwined. Thanks for a delightful visit.Kaye Swainhttp://www.sandwichink.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2388099554377836695.post-68531948495790894302012-09-10T16:22:40.768-07:002012-09-10T16:22:40.768-07:00J is right -- that is a wonderful picture of both ...J is right -- that is a wonderful picture of both of you! I loved your description of the school performance, something you know I love, too! Wonderful that you got to be there!

Your schooling and mine sounds similar in that we had 2 grades per class and it was very distracting! I did NOT get to drive Dad's truck -- but I love that you did!

They just modernized Amara's school and they now have Smart Boards in the classrooms that they can paint, draw and erase with just their hands! How cool is that? Way different from our old classrooms! And the teachers all have computers/printers on their desk with email and internet access. Amara was out sick today and the teacher is emailing her Mom the assignments! Thinks keep changing!Grandma Kchttp://amaraland.com/memories/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2388099554377836695.post-67173925068629308242012-09-10T11:35:45.478-07:002012-09-10T11:35:45.478-07:00Well thanks J!!! But they seem to be able to handle it.Connie Nelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14205026223697366069noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2388099554377836695.post-81984558643041431452012-09-10T11:32:41.753-07:002012-09-10T11:32:41.753-07:00Yes they were. I remeber lots of things they allowed I would never have allowed with my kids. And, yes classes these days are intense! I'm always amazed at the pace when I visit the class room. And homework! My gosh my first grader AND kindergartener bring homework home. I'm glad I grew up in the days when your dad could have a talk with the sheriff and all would be ok :)Connie Nelsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14205026223697366069noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2388099554377836695.post-48674127380454111912012-09-10T10:25:59.557-07:002012-09-10T10:25:59.557-07:00Well first of all, you are very pretty! Remember everything hand written and phone calls from school to a rotary dial attached with a cord. And during the years I taught, hand-outs to students were on those nasty purple mimeograph machines! And, (I'm still not done!) I even noted that the material my oldest daughter covered in 4th grade was pushed back to 2nd grade by the time the third kid was there, and they are only 6 years apart. I'm glad you had such a lovely day at school!Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07359404486512786477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2388099554377836695.post-39823824594693144172012-09-10T09:39:16.942-07:002012-09-10T09:39:16.942-07:00Wow! My schooling was quite different than my grandsons (so far, but they are still very young) in that the age they start formal schooling anymore just floors me. I know it's often because parents need child care but the formality of even the classes for three year olds is far more advanced than what was offered when I was that age or even when my own kids were that age. Great post, Connie. Beautiful photo! Thank you for linking to the GRAND Social.
