Grandparent's Say It Saturday

The kids and I decided to play with some paint and a Pinterest activity I had wanted to try came to mind. Paint is poured into large Ziploc bags, tape the bags flat to the table, and the kids then make designs in the paint through the bags. Supposedly this will keep a child occupied for hours mess free.

Except mine didn't really work like the ones I've seen on Pinterest. I think I was too generous with the amount of paint in each bag. I tried to squeeze as much of the paint as I could back into the bottles but still it was not working as promised. Then I added water to thin the paint out to gain some transparency in hopes of redeeming a failed project. Still didn't work, but it was better. I didn't have any more bags to use so I was trying in vain to make this project  work and not disappoint the kids.

This is what is suppose to happen (above) when you make finger trails over the bag, but I had to use a lot of pressure to get these results. I suggest using heavy duty bags or you will have tears.
By now the kids were bored of waiting for me to figure out the problem and had left the room. I’ll try again one day but I will only add three or four quarter size dollops of paint to each bag. It will be fun if it works right, and clean too.

Later, we painted the old fashioned way. Good and messy!

I'm delighted to have you join us today! Thanks so much for coming by.

Add your link here every Saturday at Grandparent's Say It Saturday.

  1. I bet the kids had fun anyway. Katie loves playing with paint. I'll have to give this a try. Thanks for hosting! I host a Tuesday linky party called The Gathering Spot and would love you to link up!

  2. What a fine mess! :)

I want to do finger painting one day with the kids...the good old fashioned kind that I can pick up at a teacher's store. Last year I did something with the crayola magic paper and paint but it is not the same.....

  3. What a fun idea! I will have to try this with my 4 1/2 year old :) Thanks for sharing and for having the linky party - this is my first time participating in 'Grandparents Say It's Saturday'.

  4. Oh my - I know that feeling SOOOO well. In fact, I was sharing with you in empathy yesterday. We got a new LEGOs game and I set out to play it with 3 grandkids. Turns out it's only for 2-3 people so one of us couldn't play. Then we had to build it and it was MUCH more complicated than the last two. AND we had to figure out the rules. By the time we did, I'd lost two of the grandkids to the WII but the third and I FINALLY had fun with it. But I reminded myself - again - to figure out new games BEFORE I bring them over. Then again, who's got the time :) I'm so glad y'all had fun with the old-fashioned way!!! And thanks again for another fun Grandparents LINKY.

  5. Hmmm...I just realized that maybe this linky party is for grandparents, hence the name 'Grandparents say it's Saturday'. Silly me :) I am not a grandmother, only a mother. Oops. Anyway, I've enjoyed looking at what people posted and I will know better next weekend. haha

    Blessings,
    Stephanie

  6. I have wondered sometimes about some of those projects. As a young mother, I remember reading this tip about keeping the kids occupied while getting ready for an evening out...it involved chocolate pudding finger painting. I did not fall for that one. Good grief. Can you imagine how much one would have to pay a babysitter who walked in on two kids finger painting with chocolate pudding on the kitchen counter?
