(Helping Gramma make Itty Bitty's 2nd birthday cake. All that help and it still turned out good!)
But every time I start working in that direction I get tripped up on the lingo or rules or something! Anyone out there that can relate to me? So, I am hoping that we, us Say It Saturday er's, or SIS'ters ;) can help each other out a bit. What do you say?
Let me share a trick I learned this week in my Face Book group. You may know this already but I was thrilled to learn it; when you leave a comment on someones FB page - type '@' then start typing your FB page name and a drop down menu appears. Just click on your page name when it comes up and a link is created automatically. Then anyone who sees your comment can hover over your blogs FB page name and like it from there easily. Clicking on it will take them straight to your FB page. Fun right? Much nicer looking too than having the whole http://www.yourblog.com/post/ and so on.
So, I will ask blogging related questions and you all chime in with your expertise ok? Ok, my question for you all this week is this; how do you create a brand for yourself? With the changes with Google and SEO, is it best to use your name (not your blogs name) across all social media? It has seemed to me that using your name is really the only way to grow your authorship. I have started using my name instead of FH&L more though I have to tell you I am kinda shy about it. What have you done to create your brand?
This is a link up for older bloggers; but you don't need to be a grandparent to link up. Link up to three post, not to your home page, and link that back to Family Home and Life. While you are here I hope you will visit the other linkers and come back to see who links up later. We all love comments! No Etsy shops or giveaways please. This link closes on Monday night.
I am so glad you stopped by!
Be sure to visit Lisa at Grandma's Briefs to join her linky, GRAND Social, on Mondays. Thank you for linking up with me!

The cake baking crew is adorable! :) Not sure about the questions...too early for me to think : )
ReplyDeleteI would sure love to have more "tech support" for my blog. My question these days is "how do I go about getting a sponsor or starting to make a little money off my blog?"
ReplyDeleteYes I want to know about getting sponsors too. Have you heard of Moms Make Money? She has some ideas how to get started. I have yet to try any of them; hopefully soon. Here's the link. http://moms-make-money.com/
DeleteMost of what I know about blogging has come from others who share what they know - and that includes you, Connie! There's a little I've figured out on my own. I am happy to share anything I know with anyone who can benefit from it. This is a great idea! But this week I haven't a clue on your topic!
ReplyDeleteOoops! I forgot! DARLING little "helpers!"
ReplyDeleteHappy Saturday! :) The girls look adorable !
ReplyDeleteI've owned a few sites and have learned so much my brain hurts! That facebook move is a great one.

Happy weekend and thanks for the party. Your question is a good question and I am really struggling to understand all that stuff too. I really would prefer to maintain my brand and not use my name. I'll check back to see if you get any good ideas about this.
ReplyDeleteWhether you use your name or not depends on whether you might one day decide to sell your site. Your brand has more value if you are building it independent of your name.
ReplyDeleteI can sure relate to what you are saying. There is so much information out there. Lots of nice bloggers too. I have been experimenting with different things. Seeing what works for me. I want to stay true to me. I think that is how you will build a good following. I have been doing more reviews lately. They are fun ways to try new products and sometimes earn a few bucks :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting a linky for us over 50 crowd lol :) Have a wonderful weekend Connie.
Brent Riggs (of Linky) thinks using your name is the way to go. He also thinks one should have their own website -- not a blogspot. He has a great epic book (well worth the money) that has been helping me, but I love the idea of helping each other.

Wow..some good suggestions here! I too have been learning as I go and getting ideas from others. Connie and Lisa@Grandma's Briefs have been super helpful! I'm not ready to post everyday...so not sure I can make any $. And how do you review products if you don't like/use them? Probably too naive LOL
ReplyDeleteMy main problem re Facebook is traffic. I have 60some likes....but only views/comments from family or a few frequent followers!I wish there was a trick to get folks to the website itself! You can tell from "that's nice"/good story" that people are not really reading posts...just getting the gist of it from your grabber.....hate that!

FB traffic is tough....they limit the number of people you actually reach because they now sell promos. I really dislike that they (FB) decides who sees your postings and not your liker's themselves. Honestly, I would totally ditch FB if it wasn't so important to have. Try posting your blog links in your first comment and (say so in your posting). You will get a lot more readers that way.
DeleteI wish I knew the answer. This is all so new to me also. I'm learning as I go. Thanks for the FB info. I am lucky enough to be working on a series for teaching your children (or grandchildren) how to sew:

I am going to jump in here in response to JOAN: I think that alot of what is going on ( FB / etc ) is just people saying " Like me / follow me and I'll like / follow you back" and none of it is really real :)
ReplyDeleteAfter all, how many blogs can you really read or follow daily / weekly / monthly / occasionally
You are right! I have participated in those blog hops to gain FB likes too. Sometimes I think it's a waste of time but - when there are others doing that to gain numbers - then it seems like you need to keep up with them. I guess I think of possible income from the bigger numbers but I'm not sure it matters really. Mostly I don't have time to participate in those and it kinda seems weird anyway. Since FB plays with bloggers so much it seems to be the only way to get ahead by asking for likes.
DeleteThanks, Connie, and thanks for the blogging conversation!
