The Flylady suggest that you put all your clothing hangers backwards in your closet once a year, then after you wear them hang them back the right way. After a year throwing out all the clothing items that are still backwards because you haven't worn them.
I can think of at least one other way to use this 'hanger backwards in the closet' trick. How about helping your kids know what to wear for school in the mornings? In our family, the dad's are often the ones who are getting little ones ready and out the door to school; and occasionally grandma. With a weeks worth of clothing hanging in the closet with the hangers backwards (prepared by mom ahead of time), it's a snap for dad, the child, or grandma to pick out an outfit for the day.
Here's Flylady's site if you are interested in having some organizing help.

What a great idea and very much in keeping with my own philosophy. I have a rule when cleaning out drawers and closets that if I haven't worn it in a year -- off to Goodwill, with the exception of a couple of fancy dresses that I keep in case I ever need them. Now I am off to visit Flylady's site. The rest of me and my house could use some organization! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGood tip! I wish I could follow this, but I know how my brain works. I'll keep everything with a backwards hanger because I'll hope that it will fit one day soon!

ReplyDeleteThat's a really great tip. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteFlylady is my hero, I am slowing getting rid of my excess junk because of her. I hung my clothes like this this past year and was surprised how well it worked. In fact after about two months I saw some items of clothing I hadn't been wearing and found new ways to wear them. At least I knew what I wore all the time and what I rarely wear. I plan on doing it again on Jan. 1.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great tip! Thanks for sharing at Pin It Thursday-- I featured you here http://www.sweetbellaroos.com/2012/10/21/pin-worthy-featured-links/
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea! I need to do this, as opposed to dusting the tops of stuff I haven't worn in forever!

I love it! But for me, it would have to be two years. I have been known to let an item sit for two years then start wearing it all the time. Especially this past winter, some things never got used because it was just to darned warm.
ReplyDeletegreat idea! thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteWhat a handy tip. I did just go through my closet and really down sized. We have lived in our home 3 years. I figured if it hadn't been worn it probably wouldn't. Gave a few skirts to my 13 year old grand daughter. She came yesterday and had one of them pulled up like a sleeveless dress, belted up high and a mini jacket. It looked darling on her. Who would have ever guessed. It was a long skirt on me. I thought that she was so clever at making it look young.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.

ReplyDeletei make the boyfriend do this with his dress shirts for work. i swear, he can wear the same ones over and over, and even after rehanging them from being washed, he somehow picks the same one again. this way he knows he already chose that one, yeesh!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea especially for my daughter who claims that she cannot get rid of any of her clothes while her closet is overflowing.
ReplyDeletewhat a clever idea!

What a great idea! I love finding out new ideas!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! I bet if I did that, at the end of the year I would have to throw out 90% of my clothes. But that's probably not a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking this great tip up last week! We'd love to have you back today:

ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. For me, it's easier said than done. I have such a hard time getting rid of my clothes...even when I know I'll likely never wear them again BUT you've inspired me to try. That's at least a step in the right direction.
