PicMonkey for Kids

Hey kids, want to have some fun using the computer with PicMonkey? It's really easy to do and you can make lots of fun pictures. All you need are shapes and colors to create with and *PicMonkey will make them for you; you will just need to choose them. Let's get started!

Start with a blank picture by scanning a blank sheet of paper into your computer. (or make a copy of any photo, it will be covered anyway, just make sure it is a copy )  Open a window in *PicMonkey, click 'Edit a Photo' and up load your blank paper scan. Then.....

On the left side of the PicMonkey screen, choose Crop and pick 8x10 - Apply,  so you can print it later if you want.

Choose  overlays - Geometric. Choose a square, it will appear as a small black square on your blank picture. Change the size it by holding the left mouse button down on the edge and pulling it. Pull to cover almost all of the blank photo leaving the bottom open blank. Color it blue for the sky by taking the cursor arrow over to the rainbow color bar. Click when it is the color you want.

Now in overlays, choose a rectangle and color it green for grass or brown for dirt.

Next we will build a house. Choose a square and size it like you want, then choose it's color. Next click on a triangle, size and color it. A small square can become a window.

Now choose a rectangle for a door. I wanted my door to be the same color as my roof so, with the rectangle selected, I went to the rainbow color bar and clicked anywhere on the rainbow. Then I clicked on the little rectangle bar on the right. It became a dropper that I took over to my roof. My door becomes the same color as the roof. I need to left click on the roof to keep the door that color. I put a door knob on the door by choosing a circle and making it really small.

Next I decided I wanted a tree beside my house so I chose a rectangle and made it really skinny then colored it brown for a tree trunk. Then, I chose a circle and colored it green. It's ok if it goes off the side a little. That was fun! What else can you make on your picture? Be sure to save and name your picture when you are finished. Thanks for making a picture with me!

I like my PicMonkey picture! What can you make with PicMonkey? Can you tell a story and make a picture to go with it?

*PicMonkey offers many free applications but some apps they charge for. If it has a little Crown symbol next to it, you must sign up and pay for the use of it. All the apps I have used here in this tutorial are free.

I link at these parties.
