Say It Saturday

Good morning bloggy friends! That was fun last Saturday wasn't it? I really enjoyed having you all join in with your comments. I do hope you all read Gail's post, Branding Your Blog. She did a great job explaining it! Thanks Gail! I have changed my blog up a few times so I guess you could say I'm still figuring out who I am here. (I do kinda miss my birds nest with the blue eggs :/ Thinking of bring it back. )  I currently am not blogging as I would like to due to time constraints so I am sure my blog will evolve as time goes on.

Interesting thoughts from last weeks questions about Branding and if is better to use your name or your blogs name....I think I need to research it more!

Whether you use your name or not depends on whether you might one day decide to sell your site. Your brand has more value if you are building it independent of your name.
Brent Riggs (of Linky) thinks using your name is the way to go. He also thinks one should have their own website -- not a blogspot. He has a great epic book (well worth the money) that has been helping me, but I love the idea of helping each other.

To share with you this week is a trick that has been making the rounds in link parties. You may know it already. When you leave a comment on a post and you want to direct anyone interested back to your blog, you can type a HTML code and it creates a direct link back to your blog. It is very good blog PR. Much easier for the interested party than trying to find you through your profile or having to copy and paste a link you leave in their browser. Here is the code...<a href="http://www.yourbloglinkhere.com"your blog title here</a>. But remember it needs to be exactly right; don't add spaces or anything extra. Mine looks like this,

<a href="http://www.familyhomeandlife.com">Family Home and Life</a>

Where the red letters are, replace that with your link, where the blue letters are, that is the name you want readers to see, the name of your blog. Go ahead and practice it in my comments....leave a comment then use the code, you can choose preview to see if you did it right. It is a fun trick I love to do!

Do you have a Facebook page for your blog? You should read this post by Sinea over at Ducks 'n a Row. And I will add, it is very easy for us all to click 'like' when we are on FB and we see another bloggy friends post. Doing that makes a huge difference for that poster and apparently it will be even more important in the coming future.

If you are serious about blogging then you need to be on Social media. I pretty much have Facebook figured out but Twitter is like being in a foreign country to me! I really don't get it. I have started Tweeting but I don't know if I am doing it right. I am also on Google+ now and that seems easy enough but I am still learning the ropes there. Pinterest is great and you should at least have a Pinterest account. I don't think I want to do Instagram, Linkedin or Bloglovin.

So my questions this week are;

  • Do you have Social media accounts connected to your blog?
  • If you do have Social media accounts, which ones do you feel are the most important to your blog?
  • Do you have any tips or suggestions about how to Tweet? Please? :)
  • What exactly does 1+ mean or do on Google+? (I have used it but don't know why I should!)

Can't wait to read your comments!!! I have the grand kids all day today but I will check in when I can. I am so glad you stopped by! And Happy Grand Mother's Day to you all!!!

This is a link up for older bloggers; but you don't need to be a grandparent to link up. Link up to three post, not to your home page, and link that back to Family Home and Life. While you are here I hope you will visit the other linkers and come back to see who links up later. We all love comments! No Etsy shops please. This link closes on Monday night.
Be sure to visit Lisa at Grandma's Briefs to join her linky, GRAND Social, on Mondays. Thank you for linking up with me!

  1. Connie you like to play around with Pic Monkey etc...you could try to tuck your birds nest somewhere if you miss it. Perhaps in the banner or tucked in the curve of your & sign...not sure ( as in a graphic designer could do that in Photoshop but I am not sure if you can do this in a program such as Pic Monkey )

    1. I just don't know where to put it but have considered replacing the pic of me with it. Then I could put a photo of me on my about page.

  4. +1 on Google is a "like" if I'm not mistaken. I've been on social media a long time and I can tell you when someone "likes" a status update that includes a post link, that like generates more traffic to the website. So start liking!

    1. Gosh I was glad to hear it too! It seemed for a while FB didn't care about us bloggers at all! Good to have you link up with us today :)

  6. Happy Saturday and Happy Mothers Day, too!

My pointer for all bloggers would be that if you are linking to another site in the body of your post -- such as your request above for us to "read this site" you should add the code to open that link in a new page or tab so that people don't leave your site! I am not sure how this is done with Blogger since I use Wordpress -- but I doubt it is difficult. Hope this helps!

  11. Thanks for the tips! I'm just now learning Twitter as well. I honestly think Pinterest is my favorite because most all of my traffic comes from it!

  12. ok Connie I am back after thinking about this today a bit..

I guess that I would say : on FACEBOOK you can do a quick 2 or 3 line post. I have been on fb with fam and friends for a few years...that is what I am accustomed to there. AND on occasion you enter some photos into an album there.

    Blogging is a different medium.

I started my blog towards the end of last May. Doing a blog post requires more than a FB post by a long shot.

Running around marketing your blog on FB, Twitter etc...entails more.

With only so much time in the world, I think that I will keep to working on my blog for the most part...I can't do it all :)

  13. Thanks for the tip on inserting my blog info in a comment. I am trying it here: Things my Grandkids Should Know I've saved a copy of the code with my info inserted in a document file so I can just copy and paste when I want to use it.
