A Hymn and It's History

This is a beautiful old hymn that I have loved since I was a child. You can only understand it's true meaning after you have lived through deep sorrows as well as deep joys. As the years have gone by, I love it even more. There is a wonderful peace that covers you when you get to a place with God where you can accept that all of life, even the painful areas are ok. Then this song becomes precious and brings you joy because you know it like a friend. If you would like to know the history of this hymn and about it's writer, click here and be sure to scroll down below to the history area.

  1. This is one of my all time favorite hymns. The words are so powerful and the meaning so true. I love singing it and I'm so thankful to see it on your blog so that the words and melody will be going through my head today, much better than the tunes of my kids' cartoons! :-)

  5. I love this hymn too. I remember I was around 19 when I first heard the story behind the hymn. A friend of mine was sharing how depressed she was after the loss of her father and how this hymn spoke to her and she shared the story with me.

What a testimony to the grace of God and to this man's faith. The cry of his heart is able to become the cry of our hearts during difficult times, when we can sing this song and say too that "it is well with my soul."

Also, just wanted to say that "Making Your Home Sing Monday" linky party is live and waiting for your posts! :)
